LONG ISLAND CITY — A brazen thief stole a guitar worth more than $4,000 from a music store in Queens by trying to hide the instrument under his shirt, according the NYPD.

The man entered the Guitar Center on 48th Street and Northern Boulevard just before 4 p.m. on Oct. 18 and took the Gibson guitar — which costs $4,650 — from its display stand, then walked out of the store without paying, authorities said.

Video released by police shows the thief gripping the neck of the guitar and nervously looking around the shop, then making his getaway while trying to cover the instrument with his shirt.

The man is described as 30 years old, 5-foot-10 and 165 pounds, according to police. He was wearing a gray long-sleeve shirt over a black t-shirt, jeans, black sneakers and glasses, police said.

The theft is the second at that Guitar Center location in recent weeks: another man stole an electric drum kit module worth more than $2,000 in early October, according to police.

The store declined to comment.

Anyone with information is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-577-TIPS.
