LOWER MANHATTAN — More people are suing the NYPD for personal injury and misconduct in Lower Manhattan's 1st Precinct, according to a recent report from Comptroller Scott Stringer's office.

Lawsuits against the NYPD jumped 45 percent from calendar year 2013 to 2014 in the 1st Precinct, despite a 15 percent decrease in the total number of criminal complaints filed, the analysis found.

According to the comptroller's ClaimStat report, 32 misconduct suits were filed in 2014, versus 22 the previous year. The total number of criminal complaints in 2014 was 1,208, in comparison to 1,416 in 2013.

The jump in lawsuits bucks a citywide trend of fewer suits against the NYPD. In fiscal year 2015, the total number of suits against the NYPD dropped 12 percent.

The 1st Precinct, which covers all of Lower Manhattan, along with SoHo and Hudson Square, was not, however, among the NYPD's top 15 precincts with the largest number of criminal complaints and lawsuits.

The NYPD did not immediately return request for comment.
