BEDFORD-STUYVESANT — Perfect your purl this winter at a new knitting and crocheting shop on Nostrand Avenue.

Slip Stitch Needlecraft, a one-stop shop for handmade goods and materials, will open its doors on Nov. 14, according to owner Claudette Brady.

Brady, a longtime Bedford-Stuyvesant resident, sought to set up shop around the corner from her home and follow her passion for the craft, she said.

“I had to leave the neighborhood to get yarn or a knitting needle. Now, here's some place for the neighborhood to have,” Brady said.

The 400-square-foot storefront at 437 Nostrand Ave., near Hancock Street, will offer up to 30 varieties of yarn skeins, patterns and a full line of knitting needles and crochet hooks.

Ready-to-wear items made by local designers will also be on sale just in time for the cold weather, with average prices of $40 to $60, the owner said.

Those eager to pick up a new skill or knit and crochet with a group can attend the store’s “Stitch and Kvetch” sessions, Brady added.

The shop will host beginner and intermediate lessons each weekend, as well as get-togethers where craftsmen can share their knowledge.

Slip Stitch takes the place of a former barbershop and supply store.

The business’ opening event will take place on Nov. 14 at 11 a.m., with wine and food served starting at 1 p.m.

Operating hours for November are from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., Wednesday through Sunday.
