LOWER EAST SIDE — An art gallery will start showing dozens of "poop-inspired" art pieces next week.

The artwork includes “Poop World” — a collection of free-standing pieces that come up from the floor, hang from the ceiling and come out of the walls — and “a tactile design piece” that incorporates a toilet and hundreds of rolls of toilet paper.

More than 30 artists are participating in “The S-it Show,” an exhibition opening to the public on Nov. 20 at the Thierry Goldberg Gallery to help raise awareness about water and sanitation issues around the globe.

One in three of the world’s population, or 2.3 billion people, lack access to safe, private toilets, said Sarina Prabasi, the CEO of WaterAid which is organizing the show.

Preventable diseases are more likely to spread in communities without adequate sanitation, she said, and going to the bathroom outdoors makes women more vulnerable to attacks and harassment.

“It’s a really serious topic but one that’s still really difficult to talk about,” Prabrasi said, explaining that the show was a “lighthearted” attempt to bring attention to the issue.

Visitors who want to learn more about the issue, however, can also catch a short documentary called “Across the Tracks” which will be screened at the exhibition.

All of the artwork — which includes illustrations, photos and 3D pieces — has been donated, she said, and will be available for sale with proceeds benefitting the group’s water and sanitation programs in 37 countries around the world.

The exhibition is part of the group’s “#GiveAShit” campaign, which includes an app that allows users to make custom poop emoji.

“S-it Show” will be on view from Nov. 20 to 22 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Thierry Goldberg Gallery located at 103 Norfolk St. For more information, visit WaterAid’s Facebook page.
