TOMPKINSVILLE — A local brewery will be exchanging cans of food for pints of brews.

The Flagship Brewing Company is running its first annual food drive starting on Thursday, where people can give in three cans of soup to be donated to a local food pantry and get a pint at the brewery's taproom.

"The deal's going to be if you bring in cans of soup, you’re going to get a promotional pint on us," said brewery co-owner Jay Sykes. "You can do that once per day."

The cans will be donated to the Our Lady of Good Counsel Food Pantry in Tompkinsville and the brewery will run the food drive until Nov. 22.

Sykes said they got the idea because one of his co-owner's wife sings at the church and worked with them to set up the food drive to help out during the holiday season.

"She knows their food pantry does a lot of really good stuff during the year," he said.

Sykes said the brewery has had a positive response since they announced the drive on Thursday and will plan to make it a yearly event.

"Whatever we can do is great," he said. "After the initial year, we could at least see the number and try gain on that number."
