QUEENS — The Forest Hills Barnes & Noble is getting ready for its final chapter.

The store, at 70-00 Austin St., is closing by the end of the year, but before the location shuts its doors for good patrons will get a chance to buy a lot of items at clearance prices.

Hundreds of books, calendars and paper and stationery products are currently being offered at 30 percent off standard pricing.

An employee at the branch who did not want to be identified said that while a lot of books will be taken to the chain’s warehouses and other locations, the store hopes to sell as many items as possible before the end of December.

The store, which became a popular hangout spot for local families and students since it opened more than two decades ago, said earlier this year that it was not able to renew its lease, prompting an outcry in the community.

Next year, the bookstore will be replaced by Target, which will take over the entire two-level, 21,000-square-foot location.

Queens is going to lose all its Barnes & Noble locations by the end of the year, as the chain is also closing it’s other remaining store in Bayside.
