LOWER MANHATTAN — New York-Presbyterian/Lower Manhattan Hospital has launched a separate cancer treatment center a block from the World Trade Center.

The new treatment site, which officially opened Monday, is the only radiation oncology center in Lower Manhattan, hospital officials said.

The 21 West Broadway center is being run in partnership with Weill Cornell Medicine.

Radiation therapy at the center is handled in a "spa-like atmosphere to ease the anxieties of patients and promote optimal recovery," the hospital said in a statement. Complimentary services include aroma and reiki therapy, as well as meditation, yoga and acupuncture.

“Patients in Lower Manhattan will now have access to the exact same quality of care available at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center and Weill Cornell Medicine, without the need to miss work or skip other obligations to receive treatments,” said Dr. Silvia Formenti, radiation oncologist-in-chief at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center, in a statement.

“This is a unique environment which blends top care with an enhanced patient experience, catering to the busy schedules of residents and workers downtown.”

New York-Presbyterian/Lower Manhattan Hospital, at 170 William St., is the former New York Downtown Hospital. NY-Presbyterian took over the ailing hospital two years ago.
