MOUNT HOPE — One man died and another person was injured in an apartment building fire in The Bronx Thursday night, police said.

The blaze at 1758 Weeks Ave. was reported at 8:08 p.m. and 60 firefighters extinguished it by 8:52 p.m., the FDNY said.

One man was taken to Bronx Lebanon Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

"They tried to revive him doing chest compressions, but he wasn't responding," said Angel Carrion, 47, who lives down the block and saw firefighters work on the victim.

"He was gone. It's sad, but the Fire Department tried their best."

Another person in the home was taken to the same hospital in serious but stable condition, fire officials said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, the FDNY said.
