THE BRONX — Three police-impersonating robbers handcuffed their victims in their Pelham Bay apartments before stealing their cellphones, officials said.
The trio entered a building on Mayflower Avenue on Oct. 9, banging on the door of the victims’ second-floor home around 3:30 a.m., police said.
The men, one of whom was wearing a police shield around his neck, identified themselves as officers and handcuffed a 36-year-old woman and a 33-year-old man.
The suspects demanded drugs from the victims but were told there were none, according to an NYPD spokesman. They fled from the apartment with the pair’s cellphones and went down to the basement unit, police said.
There, they again announced themselves as police, entered another man’s apartment and took the 51-year-old’s cellphone after handcuffing him, according to officials.
No injuries were reported, police said.
The NYPD released video of the three men Monday. One man, who was seen wearing a police shield, is described as in his early 40s with a large build.
The other suspects are described in their late 30s to early 40s, tall, with large builds, according to police.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS (8477).
