Manhattan

Mimi’s Hummus, 245 East 14th St., East Village
Open Since:
Oct. 23
Type of Cuisine: Middle Eastern
The newest Mimi’s Hummus outpost features falafel and other Middle Eastern fare, but with an abbreviated version of the original Brooklyn location’s menu, making it a good option for on-the-go diners. There is, however, indoor seating and real silverware those who opt to dine in.

Farinella Bakery, 267 Amsterdam Ave, Upper West Side
Open Since: October
Type of Cuisine: Pizza and Sandwiches
This Italian bakery is known for its four-foot long "palam," a Roman-style pizza that is "the equivalent of two and a-half 14-inch round pies." There’s space to eat-in as well as free delivery.

Maison Hugo, 132 E. 61st St., Upper East Side

Type of Cuisine: French
Chef Florian Hugo, who played a part in opening Brasserie Cognac and Cognac East, has opened his own fine French restaurant including entrees like ribeye steak, Scottish salmon, scallops and even “le mac & cheese.”

Tamu Lola, 40 E. 20th St., Gramercy

Type of Cuisine: Georgian/European
Tamu Lola Robinson, a native of Tbilisi, Georgia, opened her eponymous restaurant last week in Gramercy, taking over the lease of former champagne bar Flute. Robinson mixes the Mediterranean-meets-Europe traditions of Georgia with her training in French cuisine to give diners a unique fare for dinner or for happy hour grazing.

The Pantry, by Amy’s Bread, 672 Ninth Ave., Hell’s Kitchen

The baker behind Amy’s Bread opened an extension of her bakery this summer, where she offers a spread of locally-sourced meats, cheeses and spreads to perfectly compliment her freshly baked breads.

118 Kitchen, 1 E. 118th St., Harlem
Open Since: First week of October
Type of Cuisine: Tex-Mex and sushi hybrid
A local neighborhood takeout spot with affordable lunch specials of rice, plantains, grilled chicken and beans as well as sushi prepared with high quality fish imported from around the globe. The brother and sister duo behind 118 Kitchen have worked in the restaurant industry for more than a decade.

Queens

Matiz, 110-72 Queens Boulevard, Forest Hills
Open Since: Summer 2015
Type of Cuisine: Latin American
This new stylish Forest Hills restaurant blends flavors from several Latin American countries, including Costa Rica, Colombia and Venezuela. The menu features a number of traditional dishes from the region, like arepas, tostones and empanadas, as well as paella and mofongo, a traditional Puerto Rican stew. The eatery also offers several vegetarian options.

Kavala Estiatorio, 10-07 50th Ave., Long Island City
Open Since: Sept. 15
Type of Cuisine: Modern Greek
This new restaurant is from the same owners behind local eateries SHI and Skinny’s Cantina, and focuses traditional Greek dishes with modern twists. Favorites from Chef Arthur Robert Saks III — once a competitor on the Food Network show “Chopped” — include grilled octopus with a pickled red onion salad and a red wine vinaigrette, grilled and braised lamb and fresh, whole fish that comes grilled or fried.

Brooklyn

5ive Spice, 52 Fifth Ave. at Bergen Street, Park Slope
Open Since: Oct. 26
Type of Cuisine: Vietnamese
This casual restaurant serves Vietnamese classics including banh mi, pho, and summer rolls. The menu also includes “banh xeo tacos” made with Vietnamese-style pancakes. Owner Mike Khuu said that the restaurant isn’t serving alcohol because Khuu wants the atmosphere to be “kid-friendly,” he told Park Slope Stoop.

Ravioli Wine Bar, 277 Smith St., Carroll Gardens

Type of Cuisine: Italian
Ravioli Wine Bar opened its doors on Smith Street earlier this month with more than a dozen different kinds of ravioli, including a special kids’ menu. The restaurant is open on Tuesday to Friday from 5 p.m. and on Saturday and Sunday from 3 p.m. onwards.

Cozinha Latina, 37 Greenpoint Ave., Greenpoint

Type of Cuisine: Latin American
Greenpoint’s latest bar and restaurant comes courtesy of Brazilian-American chef Shanna Pacifico of Savoy and Back Forty. The eatery serves up tapas-style dishes including grilled chicken heart and aged manchego, pork riblets and shrimp and yuca stew. A second floor lounge is expected to open up in the fall, offering more cocktails and music.

Starliner Cafe and Market, 1206 Nostrand Ave., Prospect-Lefferts Gardens

Type of Cuisine: Farm-to-Table American
This new farm-to-table cafe opened in August for breakfast, coffee and snacks, but added a lunch menu this week, serving up sandwiches, soups and salads in their brand new space at the corner of Nostrand Avneue and Hawthorne Street in Prospect-Lefferts Gardens. Craving some fresh greens, goat cheese or granola straight from the Catskills? This is the place for you.
