MELROSE — A Bronx man committed suicide Monday in the wake of a fatal dispute with his girlfriend, police said.

Police believe that Charles Addison, 47, shot himself in the head after shooting and killing his 42-year-old girlfriend, Davida Grant, in the chest.

The two lived together in an apartment at 320 E. 159th St., and the dispute may have stemmed from Grant's plans to move out, according to the NYPD.

Neighbors said they saw boxes outside the couple's apartment, but were unaware they may have been having problems.

“I always see him in the lounge. He seemed ok," said neighbor Joe Boateng. "All of the neighbors are shocked. Maybe he had some problems he couldn’t share with anybody. Nobody thought this."

Officers arrived at the apartment around 1 p.m. on Monday and found Addison and Grant both unconscious on the scene. EMS took them to Lincoln Hospital, where they were pronounced dead.

Diane Sandi, 62, who lives on the same floor as Addison, said she heard a commotion in the hallway earlier in the day and then a woman's voice say "Come inside."

She then heard another commotion in the hallway and saw emergency responders bringing Addison and Grand out of the apartment.

"They were pumping the woman’s chest," Sandi said.

“It’s really sad. It’s depressing to see something like this. When I saw the bodies I just cried. Nobody should lose their life like this.”

"The investigation is ongoing, police said.
