Woman Struck and Killed by Van in Jamaica, Police Say

JAMAICA — A 63-year-old woman was struck and killed by a van in Jamaica on Monday afternoon, according to the NYPD.

Janet Peters was just blocks away from her 89th Avenue home when she was hit by the vehicle at Archer Avenue and 165th Street around 1:45 p.m., police said.

Peters was walking on 165th Street when the van, travelling southbound, struck her, according to officials.

The victim was unconscious and unresponsive on the ground when paramedics responded to the scene. She was taken to Jamaica Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries, police said.

The 42-year-old driver remained on scene. No arrests were made as of Tuesday morning and the investigation is ongoing.
