QUEENS — Police are looking to question the live-in boyfriend of a 28-year-old woman who was found dead in her bathtub with severe burns in downtown Jamaica Saturday.

Miriam Velez-Samayoa's body was discovered roughly 4 a.m. inside her third floor apartment on 90th Avenue, near 148th Street, after police responded to "a 911 call of a possible assault in progress," authorities said.

The victim, who was pronounced dead at the scene, was found with severe burns all over her body. Police officials said that an accelerant was used to set her on fire.

The Medical Examiner’s office said Tuesday that the cause of Velez-Samayoa's death "is still pending further studies."

Police are looking to question Carlos Leon, also known as Carlos Alvarado, who they said was the victim's live-in boyfriend.

Sources said the couple was supposed to fly to Guatemala Saturday morning. Investigators, who as of Tuesday morning were not able to locate the boyfriend, are checking whether the man boarded the flight, sources said.

Police said they were not aware of any domestic violence history between Velez-Samayoa and her boyfriend and that the investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-577-TIPS.
