PARK SLOPE — A South Slope intersection where locals have long complained of speeding cars is getting a traffic light, Community Board 7 announced Tuesday.

The Department of Transportation will install the new signal at Eighth Avenue and Windsor Place by the end of February, DOT officials said in a letter to the board.

Community Board 7 asked the DOT to study whether a traffic signal would be appropriate at the intersection in the wake of a July car crash there that injured one person.

Community Board 7 District Manager Jeremy Laufer told DOT officials then that locals had often complained of speeding at the crossing. Residents also worried that the intersection needed better pedestrian safety measures because it's right next to the Bishop Boardman housing complex for seniors.

“Our residents are concerned that the seniors at the housing complex are vulnerable to speeding vehicles and believe that they deserve a safe, controlled crossing point on their corner,” Laufer said in an August letter to DOT.
