LOWER EAST SIDE — A 70-year-old man stabbed a runner outside a Broome Street bodega last week, police said.

Police said the victim, a 37-year-old man, was running when Ernest Holmes took a kitchen knife and plunged the knife into his back on Oct. 9 at 1:30 p.m.

The attack caused “a deep laceration and substantial blood loss,” police said, and the man was taken to a hospital, according to a criminal complaint from the Manhattan District Attorney’s office. It was unclear which hospital treated the victim.

Holmes was charged with attempted assault, according to the complaint, and was released on his own recognizance.

His attorney did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
