WEST VILLAGE — An elderly man was attacked by his younger, live-in female friend late at night, police said.

Police said the 81-year-old man and the 42-year-old woman were arguing at 11:23 p.m. on Oct. 2, when the woman punched him in the face.

The man's face was bruised and bloody when officers arrived, police said.

The woman bit the arresting officer, police said.

The elderly man told the officers that the woman doesn't work regularly or own a car, that she spends time around the neighborhood and in his apartment, and has friends in the area, but he hasn't met any of them personally, police said.

The woman was arrested and charged with felony assault for injuring a victim older than 65, as well as misdemeanor attempted assault with intent to cause physical injury, according to court records.

Prosecutors asked a judge to assign the woman $5,000 bail, but the judge released her. The woman is due back in court on Jan. 21. Her attorney did not immediately respond to a voicemail left for comment.
