CENTRAL PARK — A man claims his dog was fatally shot in the head in Central Park Tuesday night, police said.
The 65-year-old man, whose name was not immediately released, was walking through the park near West 110th Street and Central Park West about 10 p.m. when his black Labrador went down a hill, an NYPD spokesman said.
When he caught up to the dog, he noticed that it had suffered a severe head injury, police said.
The owner called police and told them that the animal had been shot, officials said.
They brought the dog to an ASPCA facility where it was pronounced dead.
A necropsy will be performed to see what killed the animal, officials said.
Investigators didn't find any evidence of any gunfire at the scene, an NYPD spokesman said.
