MIDTOWN — A Midtown resident who found a lost cellphone was attacked and beaten when he tried to return it to the owner, police said.

The 34-year-old victim was returning to his Central Park South residence on Sept. 21 roughly 4 a.m. when he found a mobile phone, police said.

The owner called and the two men arranged to meet in front of the victim's apartment building near the intersection of 59th Street, police said.

When Ohio resident Floyd Robinson, 30, showed up, he accused the victim of stealing his phone and punched the victim several times in the face, police said.

The victim was taken to Roosevelt Hospital, police said.

Police later arrested Robinson and prosecutors charged him with assault, according to court documents.

He was released without bail and is due back in court on Oct. 26, records show.

Floyd’s Legal Aid attorney Gurmeet Singh declined to comment on the case.
