EAST HARLEM — A thief stole $7,000 worth of tools from a Parks Department van, police said.

The loot included a $1,200 hammer drill, a $1,500 vacuum pump and more than $1,500 worth of hand tools from a van parked at 2341 Second Ave. on Sept. 28, according to the NYPD.

Whoever stole the tools smashed the front drivers side window of the white 2011 Ford van about 5:45 p.m., police said

The 25th Precinct has experienced an uptick in car break-ins earlier this year. Most of the times people would smash the car's windows if they saw anything valuable inside.

Local officers encouraged people not to leave anything visible inside their cars, even if they think the visible items are not valuable.
