ST. GEORGE — Officials are seeking a man suspected of starting a fire inside the Staten Island Chamber of Commerce building last weekend.

On Sept. 26, firefighters responded to a blaze in the first floor of 130 Bay St., the offices of the Staten Island Chamber of Commerce, at 12:58 p.m. and put it under control at 1:26 p.m., the FDNY said.

There were no injuries but the fire caused significant damage to the building and offices inside, fire marshals said.

On Friday, the FDNY released a video of a man suspected of starting the blaze throwing a cigarette into the Chamber's building as he walked by. A spokesman for the FDNY would not confirm the cause of the fire.

The suspect was last seen wearing jeans, a dark colored shirt and a backpack, the FDNY said.

The Staten Island Chamber of Commerce did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the FDNY Fire Marshals 24-hour hotline at (718) 722-3600.
