MORISSANIA —  A young girl in a stroller was struck by a motorbike driver who fled when he saw police officers arriving at the scene around 2:40 p.m. Thursday, according to officials and witnesses.

The motorbike hit the stroller with the child in it as the older woman with her waited at the corner of Boston Road and 165th Street, according to Ruth Garcia who owns a daycare center nearby and witnessed the accident.

"The sound [of the accident] was scary because the older lady was screaming," Garcia, 39, said, adding that the impact threw the stroller in the middle of the street.

The driver first tried to help the little girl but ran as soon as he saw police officers coming his way, Garcia said.

The child suffered non-critical injuries and was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital for observation, an FDNY spokesman said.

Police could not immediately confirm the accident.
