New Playwrights Festival

Where: Ophelia Theatre, 21-12 30th Rd., Astoria

Astoria's Ophelia Theatre presents the second half of its first play festival, with a different original production presented Friday, Saturday and Sunday night starting at 8 p.m. Tickets for each show cost $10, or you can buy an $18 pass that will get you entry into all three.

Friday, Oct. 2

Comic Con Party in Astoria

Where: Katch Brew & Grill, 31-19 Newtown Ave., Astoria

Dress up like your favorite superhero for this cosplay-themed celebration at Katch Astoria. The fun starts at 8 p.m. and will include beer specials, a DJ and giveaways — including a chance to win tickets to the New York Comic Con at the Javits Center next week. The event is free.

Saturday, Oct. 3

Markets of New York

Where: King Manor Museum, 150-03 Jamaica Ave., Jamaica

Before supermarkets and delis dominated the streets, people shopped for food at public markets. Join Robert LaValva, founder of New Amsterdam Market, and learn about the history of food vending in New York City and the revived interest in these institutions. The event is free and starts at 5 p.m.

Pumpkin Patch at Queens County Farm Museum

Where: Queens County Farm Museum, 73-50 Little Neck Pkwy., Floral Park

Get ready for Halloween with a visit to the Queens County Farm Museum, where you can wander through the patch to find the perfect pumpkin to take home. There is no admission fee to enter the patch, which is open from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on weekends through Oct. 15. On weekdays, pumpkins are sold in the gift shop.

Culinary Walking Tour of Astoria

Where: Tour starts in front of Rio Market, 32-15 36th Ave., Astoria

Noshwalks, a tour guide company that hosts food-themed neighborhood walking tours, will be in Astoria this Saturday. The 3-hour tour will include stops at local markets and bakeries, with tastes from Brazil, Venezuela, Albania, Greece and more on display. Tickets are $55 or $20 for kids. Reserve your spot here.

Raptor Fest Comes to Queens

Where: Flushing Meadows-Corona Park

The annual celebration of birds of prey, like red-tailed hawks, bald eagles and falcons, swoops into Queens for the first time in its 18 year history. There will be hands-on demonstrations and the opportunity for people to observe these birds in their natural habitat, guided by the Urban Park Rangers. Event runs from 12 to 3 p.m.

► Flea Market at St. Mark's Church

Where: St. Mark's Church, 33-50 82nd St., Jackson Heights

This market, which runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., will include vendors selling vintage items, new gems and other local items. The kitchen will also be open.

Sunday, Oct. 4

The Magic Fish

Where: The Community House of The Church-in-the-Gardens, 15 Borage Pl., Forest Hills Gardens

Musica Reginae presents "The Magic Fish," an opera for a young audience. The show presents a tale by the Brothers Grimm about the son of a fisherman who is granted wishes after catching a magical sea creature. This fully staged, one-hour production is a great way to introduce kids to the elements of opera. Tickets are $15. Shows are at 1:30 and 4 p.m.

Archtober Tour: Queens Botanical Garden Visitor Center

Where: Queens Botanical Garden, 43-50 Main Street, Flushing

Archtober is the monthly celebration of architecture in New York City, sponsored by AIA New York Chapter/Center for Architecture. On Sunday, experts will give a tour of the Visitor and Administration Center at the borough's botanical gardens, which was built as part of the space's capital improvements. It's been selected as a "building of the day."

The tour begins at 12 p.m. and costs $14. Tickets can be bought online.
