LOWER EAST SIDE — Dimes, a trendy Canal Street eatery known for its good-for-you fare, has opened a new sandwich shop on Division Street, featuring a menu of “grab and go” sandwiches, salads and prepared foods.

Dimes Deli opened its doors Wednesday, offering breakfast, lunch and dinner options in a narrow but bright 300-square-foot space with limited seating.

“There’s not many places like this in the neighborhood so I feel like it’s something that’s needed,” said co-owner Alissa Wagner, who opened Dimes Deli with Sabrina de Sousa and Sophie Helsby.

The menu contains more than a dozen sandwiches, salads and rice bowls, including the “Senor Citizen” sandwich — made with curried kabocha, Portobello mushrooms, pickled red onion and a housemade hot sauce in a whole wheat tortilla — as well as a kimchi bowl and the “Big Salad,” an item brought over from the original location that contains cardamom pumpkin seeds, delicata squash and other ingredients.

Dimes Deli also offers smaller food items like chia puddings, acai bowls, fresh fruit and vegetable side dishes, the owners said.

The owners also hope to open a market in the storefront next door to the deli in about a month, where they will plan to sell grocery items as well as the Dimes apothecary line, which includes lip balm and a salt scrub, Helsby said.

“You can go and just grab your groceries, do your shopping,” she said.

Dimes Deli, located at 143 Division St., is open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.
