The incident took place roughly 9:40 p.m. on Union Turnpike, between Woodhaven Boulevard and 71st Avenue, near a Stop & Shop.

The 30-year old victim, of Great Neck, was crossing the street when he was hit by a maroon SUV, driving eastbound on Union Turnpike, police said.

The driver then took off without stopping, authorities said.

The victim was taken to Jamaica Hospital in critical condition, police said.
