MANHATTAN — The city has fixed a broken water main that unexpectedly sent a stream of water into the street Thursday afternoon.
Workers were still busy fixing the roadway at Cherry Street and Rutgers Slip Friday afternoon after repairing the water main earlier in the day, said Mercedes Padilla, a Department of Environmental Protection spokeswoman.
The cause of the break was still under investigation, she said.
The break happened at Cherry Street and Rutgers Slip at about 4:42 p.m., the fire department said.

Padilla said water service was not disrupted and there were no known power outages, according to a Con Edison spokesman. No buildings were evacuated, according to Padilla and the FDNY.
