CENTRAL PARK — A man died after being rescued out of the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Reservoir on Tuesday afternoon, police said.

Rescue divers pulled the 27-year old man — unconscious and unresponsive — from the reservoir at 1:08 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon, according to the FDNY.

He was taken in critical condition to Mount Sinai St. Luke's Hospital, where he later died, police said.

A witness named Fran said that she saw the rescue operation from the window of her Central Park West apartment. She told DNAinfo New York that helicopters "were circling low over the pond for a long time. It was harrowing."

It was not immediately clear how the man got over the fence and into the water.

The cause of death is still unknown and the investigation is ongoing, police said.
