GOWANUS — A group of six teenage boys punched a woman in the face then stole her boyfriend’s cell phone after she wouldn't to give them a smoke outside a American Legion post on Sept. 11, according to a police report.

The confrontation started when a 44-year-old woman smoking outside the Michael A. Rawley, Jr. American Legion post on Ninth Street near Third Avenue refused to give the teens a cigarette at about 8:45 p.m., according to the report.

When the woman's boyfriend tried to defend her, the teens punched him in the face and kicked him, which caused his cell phone to fall to the ground. The woman called the post's bartender for help, and the teens punched him too, according to the report.

The teens then ran away, taking the dropped cell phone with them, according to the report.

No arrests had been made as of Sept. 17.
