LOWER EAST SIDE — A 40-year-old man threatened security staff of a Columbia Street apartment complex last week, hours after his brother chased one of the guards with a knife, police said.
Police said the man made “numerous” threats to security staff at the Masaryk Towers on Sept. 9 at about 7 p.m. in an apparent attempt to dissuade a guard from testifying against his 34-year-old brother, Damian Montero, who was arrested after another incident earlier that day.
“I will find him and kick his a--,” the man said, according to the NYPD.
The man — who was described as 5-foot-9, bald and 170 pounds — has not been arrested, police said.
Police had arrested his brother after he threatened the 65-year-old security guard, who asked him to leave an enclosed property at about 5:18 p.m., according to the NYPD.
Police said Montero refused the request and became angry when the guard approached him. He then pulled out a shiny metallic object from his waistband, pointed it in the guard’s direction and began chasing him, according to the NYPD and a criminal complaint from the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office.
Police said the guard ran to a security booth and called 911. Montero was charged with menacing and criminal possession of a weapon, according to the criminal complaint. His bail was set at $1,000 cash or bond.
Montero’s attorney did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
