LOWER EAST SIDE — An ice cream truck barreled down East Broadway and Clinton Street last weekend, hitting multiple vehicles, crashing into a tree and tearing through four fences before speeding away, police and a co-op manager said.

Police said a white Mister Softee truck hit five parked vehicles in front of the Seward Park Cooperative at 208 East Broadway around 11 p.m. on Sept. 11. No injuries were reported.

“He was out of control,” said Frank Durant, the co-op’s general manager said. He said the incident happened closer to 11:45 p.m. with the truck damaging six cars and a motorcycle as it crossed an empty walkway, crashed through one part of the fencing, hit a tree and then maneuvered around the tree through another fence.

“He hit a SUV and pretty much spun it sideways, so he must have been going pretty fast,” Durant said. “If it happened during the day, there’s no doubt in my mind he would’ve hit someone.”

No arrests have been made, according to police and the Lo-Down, which first reported the incident.
