CHELSEA — A new Goodwill store on 14th Street will sell only high-end and designer clothing hand-picked from the nonprofit's donations.

That the store's grand opening on Sept. 17 is occurring during Fashion Week is no coincidence. The opening day celebration at 7 W. 14th St. begins at 10 a.m. with a ribbon-cutting by local elected officials and continues with a DJ spinning hip fashion-show music.

“The opening of a new store is always a cause for celebration for us," Goodwill President and CEO William Forrester said.

The organization has recently partnered with tech companies Uber and MakeSpace, which they say has resulted in donations of higher-quality and more recent-season designer clothing. Uber has held three collection drives for them, soliciting donations from costumers and employees, and MakeSpace contributes on a regular basis, a Goodwill spokesman said.

But Forrester added that the store will be similar to their three other Manhattan-based shops in some important ways.

"All our retail locations not only offer quality clothing and household goods at bargain prices to families, but serve as donation centers where residents can donate the new and used clothing, home goods, and electronics they no longer need," he said.

This boutique is meant to be more sophisticated than your average thrift store, though, with hardwood floors, creative displays, stylish clothes, and bright blue color-block walls scattered throughout.

The 4,800-square-foot store promises to bring 19 new jobs to the community while offering training and employment for New Yorkers with disabilities or who face other barriers to employment.

Donations to Goodwill are tax-deductible and the organization says they keep 112 million pounds of discarded possessions out of landfills every year. An online "calculator" shows donors how much of an impact their contribution can make.

Goodwill, 7 W.14th St. Open Monday through Wednesday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday through Saturday 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
