CRIME BLOTTER: $35,000 in Cash Stolen From Park Slope Closet

PARK SLOPE — A burglar stole $35,000 in cash that was stored in an unlocked closet in an apartment on Union Street near Fourth Avenue, according to a police report.

The thief also took two Apple laptops from the apartment's kitchen table, according to the report. The theft happened Sept. 3 about 8 p.m.

Other notable crimes in this week's blotter at the 78th Precinct include the following, with details drawn from police reports:

► A woman in a car zapped a man with a Taser on Sept. 2 at 1:30 p.m. after the two got into an argument about the woman speeding near Third Street and Seventh Avenue. The woman said "I got something for you" before using the Taser on the man's neck, then drove off in a 2008 Mazda.

► Two men robbed a cabbie at 4:25 a.m. on Sept. 2 shortly after he parked his taxi on Baltic Street near Fourth Avenue. One of the robbers punched the cabbie and the two suspects fled in a black four-door sedan. The thieves took the cabbie's bag, which contained his cell phone, GPS device, and TLC license.

► A 34-year-old woman from Stockholm, Sweden was walking in Prospect Park at 10:30 p.m. on Sept. 3 near East Drive and Center Drive when someone pushed her from behind and knocked her to the ground. The thief then stole her bag, which contained $1,934 in valuables including a laptop computer, a Canon EOS 700D camera, a sound recorder and SD card, a portable hard drive, an iPod, Sennheiser headphones and a wallet.

► A burglar crawled into Amorina restaurant on Vandberbilt Avenue near Prospect Place through an “air conditioning opening” and stole $683 out of a cash register that he pried open at 11 p.m. on Sept. 3.

► A 35-year-old woman was looking at her iPhone 5 on Sept. 3 at 8:20 p.m. near Prospect Park West and 14th Street when a teenage boy on a bike snatched it out of her hand, said “thank you,” and rode away.

► A thief entered Vanderbilt Laudromat through a rear window Sept. 3 about 10 p.m. and stole $600 in cash, damaging a closet door in the process.

► A 29-year old-shopper at Burlington Coat Factory in the Atlantic Center Mall had her purse stolen out of her shopping basket Sept. 5 at 3:15 p.m.

► A 34-year-old mom who was eating at the McDonald’s in the Atlantic Center Mall realized her diaper bag had been stolen off her stroller when she went to change her baby’s diaper on Sept. 3 about 10 a.m.

Overall, major crimes in the 78th Precinct have increased .64 percent compared to 2014, according to the latest stats from the NYPD.
