EAST HARLEM — A man was stabbed and beaten while walking home from the subway early Friday morning, police said.

The 21-year-old victim was attacked by a group of five men after he got out of the subway at 125th Street and Lexington Avenue about 2 a.m., according to the NYPD.

After crossing Third Avenue walking east, the man was assaulted and instantly felt a sharp pain on the left side of his body, police said. The five men — all in their early 20’s — then began punching him, according to the police.

The attackers fled toward 125th Street and Lexington Avenue after the attack.

The beating happened right in front of Perkins Restaurant and Bakery, where the victim works, which was closed at the time, according to a manager.

After the attack, the 21-year-old walked home to Paladino Avenue, where he noticed the stab wound and called 911, police said.

The manager of the bakery declined to go into the details of the attack but said the victim is recovering well.

It is not immediately clear what caused the attack.
