MOUNT EDEN — A Bronx thief punched a 64-year-old in the head and stole his gold chain as he was entering an elevator on Thursday, police said.

The victim was going into the elevator in the lobby of his apartment building by Grand Concourse and East Mt. Eden Avenue at about 7 p.m. when the suspect approached him, according to the NYPD.

The suspect then punched his victim in the head, grabbed his gold chain from his neck and ran away, police said.

Dramatic video of the crime shows the suspect attacking his victim as the elevator door is about to close and knocking over a sign on the floor as he runs away.

When his victim pursues him, the suspect turns around and continues to attack him.

The victim suffered a slight head injury but refused medical attention, according to police.

Officers described the suspect as a man weighing about 170 pounds with short black hair and brown eyes. He was last seen in gray sneakers, gray sweatpants, a red T-shirt and a red baseball hat.
