UPPER EAST SIDE — The neighborhood is about to get a new barbecue joint.

Mighty Quinn's Barbecue is firing up the smoker at 1492 Second Ave. near East 78th Street this December, according to Micha Magid, who owns the chain with Chris Courmos and Hugh Mangum.

The new eatery's slow-smoked barbecue ranges from the "Brontosaurus Rib," which is a full pound of on-the-bone short rib, to pulled pork and smoked sausage, much of which can be eaten on a bun or "naked," Magid said.

Mighty Quinn's only has seven entrees, but each takes time, he added. The restaurant smokes its brisket for up to 22 hours.

The new restaurant will also serve American craft beer and wine and will have a counter where patrons can pick up their meals and sit down either inside or outside on the sidewalk.

The company already has six locations in New York and New Jersey and has not yet started construction of its Second Avenue outpost.

Magid, who lives on the Upper East Side, said customers at their East Village location have specifically been asking for an uptown restaurant and that it really makes sense given the market.

"Living on Upper East Side, I've noticed a lack of authentic barbecue and lack of a casual concept," he said. "It's a natural fit. There are so many more families and younger people moving up there with new condos being built."

Magid and his partners had been looking for a spot in the neighborhood for quite some time and finally found the perfect place that "had the bones and the [open and relaxing] feel of Mighty Quinn's," he said.

The trio got its start smoking meat at the Smorgasburg in Williamsburg in 2009 and gained a following, Magid said. That's when they decided to go brick-and-motor.

But they continue to make appearances at Smorgasburg, he said.

The new Mighty Quinn's will be open during the week from 11:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. and 11:30 a.m. to midnight on Fridays and Saturdays.
