UPPER EAST SIDE — Lady Gaga's high school alma mater was contaminated by the bacteria that causes Legionnaires' disease , officials said.

The Legionella bacteria was discovered during an inspection of a cooling tower at the Convent of the Sacred Heart, at 1 E. 91st Street, according to Veronica Lewin, a spokeswoman for the Health Department.

She refused to say when the inspection occurred, or whether anyone had become ill, but said that the tower has since been disinfected and has been clear of the bacteria.

“The Convent of the Sacred Heart School has properly disinfected its cooling tower," Lewin said. "Its cooling tower’s positive test result, and subsequent disinfection, underscores the importance of the new legislation the Mayor signed just two weeks ago.

The school would not immediately return calls for comment. The all-girls school is part of the Sacred Heart International Network, which referred all questions to the 91st Street school.

In addition to the "Born This Way" singer, Gloria Vanderbilt, Paris Hilton and Caroline Kennedy also attended the school.
