YORKVILLE — Two Boots Pizza on Second Avenue was closed this week due to a gas leak, according to a sign posted on its window on Tuesday.

A break in a gas line was discovered above the restaurant, on the third floor of the 1617 Second Ave. building roughly noon on Tuesday — forcing the business to shut down, according to Two Boots General Manager Edgar Lopez.

Con Edison was doing an inspection and had found "a little bit of a low gas leak," according to Peter Dreyfuss, the property manager.

A plumber was on site within an hour of the discovery, and Con Ed will eventually return to repair the line, Dreyfuss said.

"I wish I could project [when it will be repaired]," he said. "Con Ed has a very slow track record of repair."

Con Ed spokesman Bob McGee said while he had no information about this particular leak, generally in cases like this, when a gas leak is found in a private building on customer equipment, it is the owner's responsibility to get a plumber to repair it.

Once it is repaired, Con Ed tests it to be sure it is safe to turn the gas back on. If anyone smells gas, McGee said to call Con Ed or 911 immediately. If necessary, tenants are moved out.

The other businesses in the building — Jodi's Gym, AKT InMotion, Professional Physical Therapy and Bio Fitness Center — have remained open.

Two Boots, which has 9 outposts in Manhattan and several around the country, serves a variety of pies, including a pizza called "Fielding Mellish," made with corned beef, cole slaw and remoulade dressing.
