QUEENS — Three families and several businesses were displaced after a private casino shuttle bus slammed into a Rego Park building Monday leaving a gaping hole in the three-story structure, officials said.

The Department of Buildings built a fence around the building at the intersection of Woodhaven Boulevard and 63rd Avenue and workers were trying to shore up the structure Tuesday after a full vacate order was placed on the damaged property as well as the adjacent building.

Six people, including the driver, four passengers and another person inside the house, were hurt in the crash, that took place around 2:30 p.m. Monday, when the bus, which shuttles guests to Resorts World Casino in South Ozone Park, crashed into a home to avoid hitting another car, officials said. None of the injuries was believed to be life-threatening, authorities said.

Three families temporarily lost their homes due to the vacate order and several businesses, including a law office and laser hair removal studio, were also shut down.

Alexander Schnell, a spokesman for the DOB said that "structural assessment of property is ongoing."

Two of the three affected families, including nine adults and two children, were placed in local hotels and received emergency funds, according to Red Cross spokesman Michael Devulpillieres.

It was not immediately clear if and when the families will be able to return to their apartments.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation, officials said Tuesday.
