BROOKLYN — A 2-year-old boy suffered smoke inhalation when a fire trapped him on the second floor of a Mill Basin home Monday morning, officials said.

The fire started about 1:13 a.m. and engulfed the second floor of the home near Avenue P and East 37th Street, according to NYPD and FDNY officials.

The boy was trapped inside on the second floor, an FDNY spokesman said.

He suffered smoke inhalation and was treated at Beth Israel Hospital, where he was listed in serious condition, officials said.

Firefighters brought the flames under control about 1:45 a.m., the FDNY said.

Fire marshals are working to determine what sparked the blaze, officials said.
