LONG ISLAND CITY — The city is replacing roofs at more than two dozen buildings in the Queensbridge Houses over the next two years in an effort to combat leaks and mold, officials said Monday.

NYCHA will replace the roofs at 26 buildings in the Long Island City development, an $87 million project that will also include installing new window sills and repairing brickwork, the de Blasio administration announced.

The upgrades, which are expected to finish in July 2017, are part of a larger, $300 million project to replace the worst roofs at NYCHA developments across the city over the next three years.

"Having a roof over your head isn't good enough if it leaks all the time," Mayor Bill de Blasio said in a statement, saying the renovations will "attack decades of neglect that for too long has been the status quo."
