HELL'S KITCHEN — The baker who first brought her tantalizing breads to the neighborhood in 1992 has opened a gourmet shop where customers can find an array of locally sourced meats, cheeses and spreads to complement their baked goods.

Amy's Bread owners Amy Scherber, 55, and her husband Troy Rohne, 42, opened The Pantry on Thursday at their flagship Hell's Kitchen location at 672 Ninth Ave. in the space that used to house their bakery, Scherber said.

Scherber moved the bakery to Long Island city three years ago

Along with Amy's baked goods, The Pantry offers products all produced in the city or state, with the exception of a handful of Vermont cheeses.

These include a tangy bagel spread that "changes your idea of cream cheese" and a specialty Brooklyn-made mayonnaise that "makes every sandwich amazing," Scherber said.

Duck confit, dry fig salami, bacon mayo and smoked fish are a few of the other items available.

"Everything is handmade and you can't find it any place else," she said, noting the selection includes everything needed for "a fancy picnic."

Since opening in Hell's Kitchen in 1992, Scherber has expanded Amy's Bread to Chelsea in 1996 and then to the Village in 2005.
