LOWER EAST SIDE — A woman lost $200 after a man running a shell game on the subway snatched the cash out of her hand and ran off the train last week, police said.

Police said the 23-year-old woman was riding a southbound J train on Aug. 13 and sat next to a man operating a shell game. At roughly 1:20 p.m., the man apparently lost to another rider and asked the woman for change for $100, according to the NYPD.

As she began to pull money out of her pocket to make change, the thief snatched the top bills, totaling $200, out of her hand, police said. He then ran off the train and out of the station when it reached the Essex Street stop.

The thief, who was about 40 years old, was described as standing 6-foot-1 with brown eyes and curly or wavy short brown hair.
