MIDTOWN — A woman was fatally struck by an MTA bus as she was jaywalking in Midtown, officials said.

The 69-year-old woman, who was wearing track pants with tennis shoes, was crossing West 57th Street northbound between Broadway and Eighth Avenue about 9:40 a.m. when the left side of a westbound X1 express bus hit her, NYPD and MTA officials said.

"She was crossing and it hit her in the middle of the street," said Mila Ghayret, 26, who works nearby.

"I walked over and she was moving her arms. She was on her stomach. She was bleeding. There was a lot of blood," Ghayret said.

"It was terrifying. It was horrible."

The woman, whose name was not immediately released, was pronounced dead at New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center, police said.

The bus and its driver remained on the scene, police said.

Police were still investigating, officials said.
