MELROSE — A woman was struck by a train at the 3rd Avenue-149th Street station in The Bronx Tuesday evening, officials and witnesses said.

Downtown 2 and 5 trains were bypassing the station after the woman was hit at about 5:30 p.m., according to the MTA

A southbound 2 train struck the woman in the head and she was knocked back onto the platform, according to the MTA. She was rushed to a nearby hospital and her current condition was not immediately known.

Commuter Lettcia Herrera said the woman was conscious after getting hit.

She also said that there was a lot of blood on the victim's head and clothes, and she did not want to leave when officials came to take her to the hospital.

"She said, 'I don't want to go. I don't want to go,'" Herrera said.

Police officers on scene redirected riders to the Grand Concourse station.
