MIDDLETOWN — A new pop-up enrollment site for the city's popular free municipal identification cards has opened in The Bronx.

Residents of the borough seeking to get an ID card can now go to Our Lady of Assumption Church at 1634 Mahan Ave. from Monday until Sept. 2 to sign up.

The office will be open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m., and people hoping to get a municipal ID must make an appointment, which they can do by calling 311 or going to www.nyc.gov/idnyc.

The city launched its municipal ID program in January. Demand was initially so high that people waited for hours to get inside of enrollment centers, and appointments were backed up for months.

Officials hired more staff and opened additional enrollment centers to meet the high demand for the cards in February.

All residents of New York City who are 14 and older are eligible to get the cards, regardless of their immigration status.

Perks of the IDs include free membership to 33 cultural institutions in New York, including the Bronx County Historical Society, the Bronx Museum of the Arts and the Bronx Zoo.

Applicants must show proof of identity and proof of residency to get an ID card, with acceptable documents including passports, driver's licenses, pay stubs and bills.

Permanent locations in The Bronx to get a municipal ID include Lincoln Hospital at 234 East 149th St., the Department of Finance at 3030 Third Ave., and the Bronx Library Center at 310 East Kingsbridge Rd.
