EAST VILLAGE — Marymount Manhattan College’s first downtown location opens later this month, when nearly 200 students move into its new East Village dormitory.

The 12-story residential building, located at 200 E. Sixth St., will welcome its first occupants on Aug. 28, the Upper East Side liberal arts college announced this week.

“MMC’s expansion into downtown Manhattan is an expression of our commitment to fully engage with all corners of the city, as part of our 'city as a campus' philosophy, while also offering students an intimate community and academic experience,” said Marymount’s president, Dr. Kerry Walk in a statement.

The dormitory, developed by the Arun Bhatia Development Organization, can accommodate 272 students although only 199 MMC students will move in this fall, according to the college. The remaining 73 spots have been contracted out to Cooper Union, which is located nearby.

Building amenities include an outdoor terrace, a fitness center, bike storage and a 24-hour study lounge. The school has also established a student discount program with businesses in the area, including Fresh & Co., the New York Health & Racquet Club, Kmart and The Bean, it said.
