HARLEM — Harlem is sandwiched between Hamilton Heights and El Barrio. But where exactly does one neighborhood end and the others begin?

Does Spanish Harlem start where Central Park ends at Madison Avenue, or does Park Avenue’s Metro North track divide the two neighborhoods? How about Hamilton Heights, does it start east or west of Saint Nicholas Park?

Since the city doesn’t have official neighborhood boundaries, the exact geographic dividing lines can be a source of debate.

When it comes to Harlem boundaries, most people who used DNAinfo’s interactive map — which lets you draw your own boundaries — generally agreed on the basic area north of Central Park somewhere between Park and Convent avenues. But there have been some points of contention.

About half of users seem to say Harlem ends at 145th Street while the other say 155th Street.

When we get enough data, DNAinfo will present a neighborhood map of the entire city where New Yorkers can use as a resource to settle bar bets.
