ASTORIA — A local school pulled in top scores on this year's state tests, according to data released this week by the Department of Education.

Of the 80 seventh graders who took the state math exam at The Baccalaureate School for Global Education, 100 percent passed the test, according the DOE — a slight increase from the year before, when nearly 98 percent of students at the school passed.

The school also scored highly on this year's state English test, with 98.1 percent of its 162 seventh and eighth graders scoring proficiently.

The Baccalaureate School for Global Education is located at 36th Avenue and 35th Street, and teaches an international education program to grades seven through 12, according to its website. In addition to its high test scores, the school's also ranked number 28 on the U.S. News & World Report's list of best high schools in the nation.

The state exams are given annually to third through eighth graders, and New York City students overall scored slightly better on this year's tests than last year, with about 35 percent of students meeting standards in math and 30 percent in English.

In addition to the The Baccalaureate School for Global Education, Astoria's 30th Avenue School — a citywide Gifted and Talented program — had 25 sixth graders take the exams, with 88 percent passing in English and 96 percent in math.
