LOWER EAST SIDE — A man was sent to Beth Israel Hospital after he was attacked with a pair of pliers, police said.

The 48-year-old victim was sitting in front of 133 Pitt St. on Aug. 2 at about 3:35 a.m. when John Brito, 25, struck him twice with a pair of pliers, causing lacerations on the left side and the middle of his face, police said.

Brito was charged with assault and criminal possession of a weapon, according to a criminal complaint from the Manhattan District Attorney’s office. His bail was set at $5,000 cash or $15,000 bond, according to the DA’s office.

It wasn't clear if the two men knew each other.

Brito’s attorney did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
