QUEENS — South Korean coffeehouse chain Caffebene opened its new location at a busy Kew Gardens intersection, offering both indoor and outdoor seating.
The grand opening was scheduled for Monday, Aug. 10, but the shop has been serving coffee in the neighborhood since last week, the company said.
Initially, the cafe at 120-20 Queens Blvd, where real estate office NU-Place Realty was located before it moved to Forest Hills earlier this year, was slated to open in May or June. The company did not say what caused the delay.
“We are excited for another opening of Caffebene and for joining the Kew Gardens neighborhood,” said Amy Park, a spokeswoman for Caffebene, adding that she hopes the coffee shop will become a popular “destination for coffee and dessert.”
The shop launched at the corner of Queens Boulevard and Union Turnpike, near a Starbucks coffee shop and the Kew Gardens-Union Turnpike station on the E and F subway lines. It's also located across the street from Queens Borough Hall.
The space can accommodate 34 customers inside, while 12 guests can fit on the terrace in front of the store, the company said.
Caffebene, which has about 1,600 locations worldwide, also recently announced plans to open another store in Jackson Heights.
The shop serves a variety of coffee drinks, from espresso and vanilla latte to macchiato and white mocha. It’s also known for its signature beverages — misugaru lattes and frappes, multigrain drinks made from black sesame, barley, black rice, brown rice, and black beans, according to the company.
The chain also offers several desserts, like gelato, Belgian waffles and honey bread. Hot sandwiches, including Portobello mushroom and teriyaki chicken are also on the menu.
