PORT MORRIS — A trio of thieves attempted to rob an Uber driver in the South Bronx but came up empty handed, police said.

The 52-year-old driver picked up the three suspects by 169th Street and Grand Concourse around 1:05 a.m. on July 17, and during the trip, the wannabe robbers asked him where he kept his money, according to the NYPD.

After realizing that he was about to get robbed, the driver pulled over in front of 200 East 135th St. to try making his escape, but the suspects started to hit him in the head while searching the car, police said.

They did not find anything and fled, and the victim was taken to Lincoln Hospital, where he was treated for swelling and bruising.

Video shows all three suspects walking by 1290 Grand Concourse, one building from the corner where the driver picked them up.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-577-TIPS. The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the Crime Stoppers Website at www.nypdcrimestoppers.com or texting their tips to 274637(CRIMES), then entering TIP577.
